Interesting facts about auction history

Auction history holds many interesting facts.  Auctions have never been more popular, with the internet holding numerous online auctions there are more auctions now than ever before. It seems that everyone has dabbled a little in online auctions, be it as a buyer or a seller. But what about auction history?  Is there anything in auction history that will give budding auctioneers the added advantage?  How did the event of the auction start, and if we look back over auction history, will we discover secrets that we can use in today’s market?

Auction history can be located back to ancient Romans.  It is said that they auctioned goods and these auctions were held in the ‘atrium actionarium.’  Auction history tells of tales that the trading performed four functions, the buyer, the seller, the auctioneer and the promoter.  So looking at auction history it seems that little has changed.  Auctions are still performed in the same way today.

However what was traded in auction history is a little different.  In the year 193 AD, it is said that the entire Roman Empire was put up for auction!  Auction history tells us that a Praetorian Guard killed off the necessary people and then put up the Empire to the highest bidder!

Looking through auction history it is clear why people took part.  And those reasons are still the same today.  People in auction history went to an auction for the excitement and for the trading.  They wanted to get a good bargain and compete for it.  Today, as in auction history, these reasons remain the same.

To anyone looking for tips from auction history, it is clear that the reasons people buy and sell are the same.  Nothing is different today from auction history, so to anyone thinking off starting off in the auction business it is important to remember this.
